For the latest on Hurricane Beryl, click here.
For those living under a rock, Houston got hit with Hurricane Beryl last week (July 8th early in the morning). He came through on his bullsh*t! Texans will never forget the winter storm of 2021. If you know about Elsa (well that’s how I refer to that winter storm that came in and shut our city down then gave us a 7-day unwanted free trial of living as an Alaskan Bush Person).
Again, if you know then you know and you now have double PTSD thanks to Elsa and Beryl! So for me, the storm came around 3 something in the morning and around 4am our power was knocked out. Now with this happening in the summer, This was just utter disrespectful on soooooo many levels. Heads up, whoever pissed off Mother Nature… FIX IT! Now during this time, I’m not going to lie, I am with the masses in this no-power situation. I was without for 5 days…. 5 DAMN DAYS!!!
It was too damn hot for our city to be without power for that long. My kids suffered (Damn right I am still hella livid about this!). Between slowly losing our sanity, kids, elderly, and pets suffering, it was too much. Now Centerpoint(less) really dropped the ball. You would think that after ALL the storms we have had in our state, the higher-ups would learn and have things set in place. It’s not like it just popped outta nowhere. this was known for a good week. Enough time to prep and have things ready so power could be restored in a timely manner.
As I sit here typing this I can confirm My city is slowly getting back to normal however there are still areas and people without power. Beryl happened last Monday, here it is, Friday and people are still without. How does that happen? Make that make sense Centerpointless. Yeah, I am still calling you out. Here is my take on things. I am not huge on politics HOWEVER I have the urge to run for office because there is a change that needs to happen and none of our officials are really doing anything.
If other states have a better way of restoring power should we not learn so that we can have things done faster and better? Centerpoint needs to be held accountable. They want to be paid on time or their power gets shut off however they left so many people in the dark and heat. and the lack of care and compassion shows when the head guy at CenterPoint had an interview with his a/c blasting. What kind of shit is that? Again, I would like that to make sense because right now it does not.
Some people came from out of town to help but they could not jump to work because the higher-ups at Centerpoint want to complain about contracts? Like you have people come here to HELP and you wanna argue and complain instead of signing the damn contracts. Then because of the heat people wanna act dumb. I get a notif about some man that killed or shot a cop. Uh yeah, i’m not about to be looking for that dude. All these people kidnapping kids.
Oh and the dumbass people that wanna sit here and attack the people trying to restore power!!! No, we do not do that. They are trying to help. The people you should be mad at are the ones calling the shots at Centerpoint. Come on people be smarter. Oh and Lina Hidalgo, you need to be removed from your position. How are you going to DENY outside help when clearly it was needed? How stupid can you be? I would personally like to know her thought process on that.
And our lovely governor that jumped ship BEFORE Beryl and could not get off your ass and declare this a disaster, you need to be replaced as well. Thank God we have Mattress Mack and Bun-B because those are literally the main two people this city can count on when something happens! How they are not in office is beyond me but they actually try to do things and help. Like I love my city and state.
I’m a proud Texan and Houstonian. But things like this from idiots like the shot callers at Centerpoint make me feel disgusted. The way it went really could have been prevented. Like Mattress Mack said, Centerpoint needs to be held accountable and a game plan for how they will fix this and what they are going to do so things are different next time needs to happen. They need to find an alternative or something. It’s 2024, you would think there would be a better way of doing all this to get everything back in order.
So my thoughts after all this. Be Prepared. If the news says there will be a hurricane or storm or something that could possibly cause damage, book a hotel that offers free cancellation. Why? Simple. If you get hit and your power gets knocked out you have somewhere to go. Waiting last minute is just going to have you living out of your car. Solar-powered charges to keep your phones and everything charged. Generators are definitely needed. Fans! lightweight clothes. coolers and ice. Do not overshop when it comes to food that goes in the fridge or freezer. make sure you have a couple of gas cans and fill ’em up!
Gas is one of those things that is hard to find in a crisis. Be sure to have a first aid kit put together just in case! Always make sure to have all meds needed!!! get a grill or BBQ pit. That way you can still cook. foil as well because you can put things in that and put it on the grill. check on your people. Do not believe anything Centerpoint tells you about restoration efforts. cleaning supplies, so if you do lose power whether it’s a day or longer you can clean after. (you would be surprised at how hard it is to find simple things). stock up on toilet paper, paper towels, plastic ware and paper plates, trash bags, etc. better to have things you might need than to be an unlucky one and need things you don’t have. flashlights and batteries. Do not wait for a disaster to happen and you are not ready and everyone is suffering. Take those steps to be prepared as a just-in-case type of thing.
